Open Competition Winners Announced

This summer for the first time Northallerton Camera Club held its first ever Open Competition. There were three categories, Landscape, People, Place & Events and Student / Under 21’s. There were competing entries in each category and the winners are featured below.

The images were judged by Camera Club Member, Richard Cochrane and his comments are noted below.

LANDSCAPE WINNER
Dionne James – Croft Farm, Minskip.
Dionne wins a Landscape Print kindly provide by Joe Cornish Galleries. The print entitled  “Summer Morning, Hawnby Hill Crag” is signed by Joe Cornish. The judge, Richard Cochrane, said: “Right place right time, probably taken with a phone camera but that’s not a criticism the quality of camera phones is right up there with the big camera maker’s. Nice lead-in taking the viewer into the heart of the picture and to see a full double rainbow is a real treat”.

PEOPLE, PLACES & EVENTS WINNER
Colin Hamilton – The Angler, Filey Brigg
Colin wins a Rock Legends Prints signed by BAFTA Award winning Photographer and Cinematographer, Paul Berriff OBE. Richard said: “What can I say! Just beautiful everything about this picture has been handled right, I’m there with the photographer I feel the salty breeze on my face it’s a picture I would love to have taken. Well done.”

STUDENT / UNDER 21’s WINNER
Joe Harnett – Running Dear, Studley Royal. Joe’s prize is an afternoon or evening tuition session with Workshop Leader and Educator Mark Banks. Joe will also received a signed print by Mark. Richard said  “Gorgeous lighting, the Deer is nice and sharp everything else nice warm and soft. I would have liked to have seen more of the deer’s face but that’s wildlife photography for you. A worthy winner.”

In addition to the above prizes each winner will receive a years free membership of Northallerton Camera Club. All other entrants will receive a voucher for £5 which can be deducted from the cost of Membership for the 2022/23 season.

Well done to the winners. We hope all who entered enjoyed the challenge. Better luck next time.
