The NYSDPA competition was held in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough on Friday evening last week. There were nine clubs represented.
We did quite well – in fact Northallerton Camera Club was the winning club in the PDI section. In the PDI Individual section five contestants scored 30 but the judge graded them so that Hilary Crick came 5th with “Common Blue on Plantain” and Pauline Pentony came 3rd with “Pink Flair”.
In the Print section Northallerton did not do quite so well in the Club section but in the Individual section Pauline Pentony achieved a Highly Commended with “Powder Dancers” and Miles Langthorne came third with “Kestrel on Post”. All the images will be shown over two meetings in the New Year (23rd January and 13th February).
The judge for this Members Night competition, held on 14th November, was Dave Coates ARPS EFIAP/s ESFIAP MPAGB HonPAGB HonEFIAP. There were 46 PDIs entered from 16 authors and 26 Prints entered from 9 authors.
In the PDI section, two ‘Commended’ awards were given to club class members, Dee Hanson and Dave Snowdon. Three ‘Highly Commended’ awards were given to Paul Newey, Tish Newey King and Eddie Bishop. The Club class winner was Dave Snowdon, who came 3rd with The Hole of Horcum. In 2nd place was Paul Cayton with Mill Gill Force. The winner was John Webster with Lime Grove, Thorpe Perrow.
The Print section had four ‘Highly Commended’ awards, which were given to Eddie Bishop, Eric Hall and Paul Cayton, who had two HCs. The Club class winner was Stuart Goldie. In 3rd place was John Webster with Whitby Sunset. In 2nd place was Paul Newey with Skipton Canal. The winner was John Webster with Whitby Harbour.
Long-standing Club Member Dave Coates has been awarded the distinction of HonEFIAP, the highest possible distinction to be awarded by FIAP*
Dave admits to being totally surprised by their decision and said “I am so greatly honoured. I am fully aware that this award is only granted on the unanimous decision of all nine members of the FIAP Directory Board, so my sincere thanks to each and every one of them”.
For over a decade Dave served as FIAP Liaison Officer for PAGB**, having retired from the post just over a year ago, He continued “I have to say that I found the job so rewarding. On the one hand it was great to be of help to so many fellow photographers and on the other both Sheila and I have so many great memories and friendships from my time as Liaison Officer. Once again I thank FIAP for the honour”.
Congratulations from all at Northallerton Camera Club

During the ‘close’ season we traditionally have a series of day and/or evening outings. This is usually at four venues.
Members need to submit three images from at least two of the locations. This year we visited Hardwick Park, Coxwold, Sutton Bank and Kipling Hall. In the PDI section congratulations go to Sheila Coates whose set of three images were placed first, Bob Crick whose set of images were second and Eric Hall who came third. Hilary Crick earned a Highly Commended in this section. Sheila will be awarded the McCombie-Metcalf Cup.
The Prints section was won by John Stokes, second was Dave Coates and Stuart Goldie was placed third. John will be awarded the Roebuck Trophy.
Images were judge by Richard Cochrane ARPS, DPAGB who awarded marks for sets of three rather than scoring each individual image. Thanks to Richard for his time and effort in judging this competition.
