PAGB Interclub Print Championship 2022

Northallerton Camera Club and Gosforth Camera Club were the two clubs that represented the NCPF at this competition.

This annual event was held at Westholme School in Blackburn. Thirty-four clubs representing each of the regional photographic Federations took part. Five members from this club attended the event, Hilary Crick, our Competition Secretary, Robert Crick, Miles Langthorne, Jean Langthorne and Tom Violet. We hope that more members will attend either the 2023 Interclub PDI championship in Warwick or the next 2023 Interclub Print championship in Blackburn, or even both. For two reason, a) to see some of the best images from across the country and b) to experience a very different scoring system.

The three judges were, Gwen Charnock, MFIAP FRPS;  Des Clinton, FRPS FIPF and Richard Speirs, DPAGB BPE** APAGB. Each judge awards a score of 2 to 5 for each print, these are totalled so each print can be scored between 6 and 15 marks. A print that achieves a score of 15 is considered excellent and also receives a round of applause from the audience. In 3 to 5 seconds each print has been scored.  Good and excellent images stand out immediately the “WOW” factor.

The event is divided into three rounds. Round one is for all the clubs to compete against each other. The best eight clubs going forward to the Final; the remaining twenty-six clubs taking part in the Plate competition.

Round One ~ 12 x 34 images = 408 images to be judged.

For round 1 each club must submit 12 prints; at least 5 monochrome, 5 colour, a maximum of 3 nature; 5 photographers can be listed by the club but no more than 3 prints from any one photographer can be entered. Our entry and scores from this round were:-

Activity Event at Northallerton Library

On October 7th we were pleased to take part in an ‘Activity Event’ at Northallerton Library. This session was part of Libraries Week.

Members prints were on view and there were people on hand to engage with visitors and encourage them to take up photography, and indeed, join the club.

We had a few enquiries and it seemed to be fairly well attended as anyone visiting the library was directed to the event area on the upper/first floor.

The library is expecting to stage this kind of event more frequently in the future. They are very happy to host exhibitions from local clubs etc.

Change to Programme

The ‘It’s a Knockout’ evening on 24th October, has been replaced by a ‘Members’ Night’.

Members are encouraged to submit PDIs only on this occasion. If you have an image that you would like to show the rest of us – it may be a favourite image or one that you would like some feedback on – send it to Hilary Crick by 17th October, or bring it along on the evening of 17th October. You can hand in up to 3 or 4 images for a feedback.

The idea is that the author will talk about the image and the audience can then give some feedback or ask questions about it. The talk could include why you took the image, how you found it, what the conditions were like at the time, any problems you had to overcome, the equipment used and the settings on the camera. It is hoped that this will prove to be a useful session for beginners, either by showing their own images or by listening to how more experienced photographers take their own pictures. The evening relies on members to send in their images, so please take part.
