Congratulations to Eric Hall who won The Millennium Trophy with his set of 3 images entitled ‘A Bluebell Wood near Stainton, North Yorkshire’.
This competition requires members to submit a set of three images on an Open Theme. Eric’s set of three was put to the final vote by members against the winning set of prints which were by John Webster and entitled ‘Cinque Terre, Italy’. The NCPF held their annual Club Championship at Clara Vale Village Hall on 12 February. Each club had to submit 20 images in the PDI competition and/or in the Print competition. 22 clubs entered the PDI competition and 14 clubs entered the Print competition. The competitions were judged by a panel of three judges, each of whom scored each image out of 5, giving a maximum of 15 marks for an image. Six members from Northallerton attended.
In the PDI competition, only five nature images were allowed. Northallerton scored well throughout with all our images scoring at least 11. John Webster came joint 1st with 15 marks for his Cuckoo in Flight image. Three images scored 15 in the whole competition and these were then reassessed by the judges to find an overall ‘Best image’. They chose Off Hunting by Bob Norton from Guisborough Photo Group.
Overall we scored 244 and came first. As a result we have been selected to represent the NCPF in the PAGB Club PDI Championships in July.
In the Print competition, each club had to include 5 mono prints and were only allowed 5 nature prints as before. We didn’t score quite as well generally in this competition, although 7 of our images scored 13 or above. Miles Langthorne came joint 1st with his image Whooper Swan, with three photographers from other clubs also scoring 15 marks. The overall ‘Best Print’ went to Henry Tennant from Tynemouth Photographic Society with A Walk on the Prom. This time we scored 239 and finished in third place. A very respectable position to finish in.

You may recall the Dave Coates was awarded the “HonEFIAP Distinction” by FIAP after 11 year service as the PAGB‘s Liaison Officer to FIAP.
On February 4 PAGB presented Dave with his Certificate & badge at the Official opening of the “6th Masters of Print” exhibition in Birmingham. Sheila and Dave were then both surprised when the compère, Rod Wheelans, went on to say “Behind every good man is a great woman” and referenced Sheila. and then announced that the PAGB had awarded Sheila their own certificate for service, the “APAGB Distinction” for all the years that she had supported our work for PAGB, its clubs and members.
Sheila’s award was completely out of the blue for them both.
Dave says “It is especially appreciated because it does recognise what I have said many times over, that I could not have managed without Sheila’s help and support over many many years.”
Miles Langthorne was the judge for this competition. There were 45 PDI entries and 25 Print entries with members producing an impressive variety of subject matter.
In the PDI competition, Eric Hall was third with Sign Writer Painting Van; in second place with Post Replacement was Stephen Byard; the winner was John Webster with Alpine Farm Scene.
The Print competition had Colin Hamilton in third place with Castaway; in second place was Eric Hall with Strimmer Man at Yorkshire Lavender; in first place with Blinded By The Light was Colin Hamilton.

The venues for our annual Summer Outings were agreed at the last Club Committee meeting. This year, we are going for all day on a Saturday for each outing, unlike previous years when we have had Monday evening outings for two of the venues.
The dates and venues are:
Saturday 13 May: Middleham
Saturday 10 June: York
Saturday 8 July: Redcar
Saturday 5 August: Hartlepool
More details of which areas are included at each venue will be given nearer the time. Members can enter 3 images from at least two of the venues in the PDI section and/or the Print section. There is a trophy for the best set of 3 PDI images and another for the best set of 3 prints. This is a stand alone competition and any marks gained do not count towards the Photographer of the Year totals.
